Uber UK customers can now join an interest list to match with Wayve autonomous vehicles as Uber and Wayve prepare to launch a robotaxi service in London, directly competing with Waymo.
Uber unveiled a branded black Ford Mustang Mach-E equipped with Wayve's self-driving technology, with initial human safety operators before transitioning to fully driverless operations, and matched rides will cost the same as human-driven rides.
Service launch is expected in the coming months pending regulatory approval; Wayve provides the autonomous vehicle technology while Uber designed the passenger experience with interactive touchscreens supporting 64 languages, and riders can enable or decline autonomous matching through their app preferences.
