BMW has launched a global recall of 744,234 vehicles built between July 2020 and February 2026 due to faulty starter motors that pose a fire risk, marking the third such recall the automaker has issued in a relatively short span.
Germany's Kraftfahrt-Bundesamt (KBA) is overseeing the campaign, which affects 42,300 vehicles in Germany alone and entitles owners to a free starter motor replacement at BMW dealers.
The scope is comparable to a recall BMW disclosed in February 2026, which a company spokesperson described to press at the time as affecting a "mid-six-figure number" of vehicles.
