Waymo acquired a 5,500-acre proving ground in Arizona from an Apple-associated shell company (Route 14 Investment Partners) for $220 million, with the sale recorded on June 5, 2026.
The facility features a 115-acre city course, 35-acre vehicle dynamics area, 4-mile oval track, and freeway course designed for autonomous vehicle testing; Apple originally purchased it in 2021 for $125 million.
Waymo will use the site for rider-only testing, motion control testing, operational training workflows, and continuous simulation of driving scenarios; it substantially exceeds the scale of Waymo's existing Castle Proving Ground in California and Transportation Research Center in Ohio.
