On July 27, 2026, MIIT's General Office and the No.1 Equipment Industry Department held a media symposium and appointed reporters from 20 central, financial and industry media outlets as the first batch of "automotive industry payment-term supervisors."
Since June 2025, MIIT has pushed 17 major automakers to implement the SME Payment Guarantee Regulation and issue a "60-day payment-term commitment," guided the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers to issue a supplier payment-conduct initiative, and opened an online window for reporting issues, yet some automakers still disguise payment delays via later start-of-count dates and irregular process management.
MIIT will next work with other departments to draft and publish supplier payment guidelines for automakers, step up corrective action against automakers that disguise extended payment terms, and intensify enforcement against suspected violations to protect the lawful rights of supply-chain firms, especially SMEs.
