Amazon-owned autonomous vehicle company Zoox received a temporary exemption from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) last week, clearing it to begin charging for robotaxi rides in Las Vegas.
Zoox says it will start offering paid rides in Las Vegas this month, using autonomous vehicles built without a steering wheel or other traditional driving controls.
The paid robotaxi launch represents a commercial milestone for Zoox on the Las Vegas Strip, marking an early real-world deployment of driverless ride-hailing at commercial scale.
