On July 27, 2026, China's automotive standardization authority announced it has released mandatory standards for combined driving assistance and will soon release mandatory standards for autonomous driving, while co-leading the official approval of UN global technical regulations for autonomous driving.
China implements a tiered approach: recommended standards as initial guidance, mandatory standards as safety baseline, and domestic-international standard coordination; testing scenarios and methods are standardized based on China's unique road environment and regulatory context.
These mandatory standards will regulate OEM R&D and marketing behavior, strengthen full-lifecycle safety management, provide technical foundation for product admission and government oversight, enhance consumer trust, and support industry quality development and enterprise internationalization.
