On the evening of July 29, the China Automotive Standardization Research Institute (affiliated with CATARC, founded 1985, headquartered in Tianjin) said via WeChat that ADAS "blue light" indicators are being misused, causing nighttime glare that impairs other drivers' judgment and inviting risky cutting-in and close tailgating by other vehicles.
GB 4785-2019 does not explicitly regulate "blue light" use but in principle bars non-standard external lighting; the National Technical Committee of Auto Standardization is now revising GB 4785 (project No. 20262535-Q-339), while UN/WP.29's GRE and GRVA working groups study the issue amid unresolved debate over its safety benefits versus risks.
NIO VP Ma Lin said some blue lights are brighter than taillights and cause glare for following cars but that he found no official ban document online, while Yi Jing Auto brand GM Zeng Qinglin confirmed receiving an "urgent notice" and immediately complying, citing the lack of unified brightness/strobe standards and drivers deliberately cutting in or swerving near blue-light-equipped cars as the two core reasons.
