The reallocation is enabled by updated NEVI guidance under the Trump administration allowing states with "fully built out" EV charging corridors to repurpose funds, even though Florida — second only to one other state in EV ownership — has fewer chargers per vehicle than the national average.
The pads would connect golf courses, luxury apartment buildings, and airports via eVTOLs that typically carry four to five passengers, as Florida DOT hopes the aircraft can ease the state's notorious traffic, despite a nascent eVTOL market where startups are increasingly pivoting toward defense applications.
