- The African Development Bank approved a €100 million loan to Chinese battery maker and Volkswagen partner Gotion High-Tech to support its planned battery cell factory in Morocco's Rabat-Salé-Kénitra free trade zone, which will become Africa's first integrated battery production facility.
- The plant's first phase targets an annual capacity of 10 GWh of LFP battery cells and packs for electric vehicles, with Gotion aiming for a long-term expansion to 100 GWh.
- Gotion signed the investment agreement with Morocco's government in 2024 through its wholly-owned subsidiary Gotion Power Morocco, at which time the initial annual capacity cited was 20 GWh — double the current phase-one plan.
