Researchers introduce Apple-PI, the first benchmark that explicitly anchors video-generation-model evaluation in physical laws, addressing a gap in existing benchmarks, which judge only output-level physical plausibility without verifying whether the model reaches that output through a faithful, law-grounded reasoning process.
Apple-PI consists of three components, the first being Orchard, a dataset of 400 videos, built to test whether models produce physically plausible results via genuine physical-law reasoning rather than surface-level pattern matching.
Video models with a reliable internal grasp of physical law could serve as emerging world models, enabling more trustworthy physical reasoning about scene evolution and interactions.
