The African Development Bank approved a USD 114 million (EUR 100 million) loan to Gotion Power Morocco to build an integrated lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery production gigafactory anchored on the African continent.
The project is backed by China's Gotion, according to the China-Global South Project's reporting on the deal, tying Chinese battery manufacturing capacity to African industrial financing.
The financing advances Morocco's bid to become Africa's electric vehicle manufacturing hub, pushing the country deeper into the global EV battery supply chain and signaling that LFP localization is expanding into new corridors relevant to automakers diversifying battery sourcing beyond China.
