General Motors named Sterling Anderson, who joined the company in June 2025 as Chief Product Officer, to lead a product team of more than 20,000 people tasked with driving the next generation of automotive innovation.
Anderson joins GM after more than eight years at Aurora Innovation, the autonomous-trucking company he co-founded in 2016, and two years at Tesla where he led development of the Tesla Model X; he holds a Ph.D. in mechanical engineering and robotics from MIT.
In an October 9, 2025 interview with GM News editor-in-chief Eric J. Savitz, Anderson discusses AI and the future of mobility, with the conversation spanning autonomy, software, EVs and batteries, and charging — areas central to GM's product roadmap.
