A report released July 9, 2026 by nonpartisan business group E2 (analysis by BW Research) finds the Trump administration's rollback of clean energy policies has cost the US nearly 470,000 jobs and $68.2 billion in private capital investment, based on 216 large-scale clean energy manufacturing and power projects canceled, closed, or scaled back since January 2025.
E2 estimates these projects would have added more than $90 billion to US GDP during construction and an additional $55 billion annually once operational, with the report spotlighting battery manufacturing sites such as FREYR's Georgia factory among the affected projects.
For automotive, the retreat weakens the domestic battery and clean-energy manufacturing base that underpins US EV production, increasing the industry's exposure to imported battery supply chains as the sector's growth momentum slows.
